Owls Pre-School At Pooh Corner, our pre-school group is known as The Owls. Here, the Owls have their own separate area specially designed and equipped for this age group (3-5years). The pre-school has achieved glowing Ofsted reports from all its inspections, and has achieved a Herts Quality Standards Award.
The pre-school building comprises of three large rooms, a bathroom and its own kitchen - perfect for preparing meals and cookery lessons. The Owls pre-school staff plan - using the Government's Foundation Stages curriculum - term-by-term topics for the children to study, designed to prepare your child for infant school.
During a typical day the children have 'group time' for structured play - an area that helps the development of each child's concentration. Staff will look at specific activities such as reading; learning about numbers; letters and sounds. The Owls will also take part in circle time, where they can talk about their feelings, news, or bring a toy for show and tell helping to develop their social and communication skills.
We encourage artistic and creative ideas through free play, such as painting, and also promote good hygiene - every Owl has their own wash bag for their toothbrush, used after lunch. Acting out stories, music and movement are other popular activities for the children. The Owls also have the use of a computer which they use for educational games.
As with the younger groups, each 'Owl' has a key worker who will also complete weekly progress sheets for you to review and keep.
